The Hope To Sleep and Never Wake

Hope to Sleep and Never Wake is part of the Five Stages of Grief series, created in response to the loss of the artist’s father. Representing the stage of depression, this work explores the quiet weight of grief through layered grayscale tones and sweeping circular movement. 

The monochromatic palette reflects emotional numbness and stillness, while the soft transitions and textured center echo the mind cycling through memory, exhaustion, and a longing for rest. Rather than depicting sorrow directly, the painting invites the viewer into a calm, muted space where emotion is felt rather than explained. 

Each piece in this five-work series is rendered in a single color family, honoring a different stage of loss and reflecting the deeply personal healing journey behind the work.
